Appetizer
Smoked Salmon and Sauteed Asparagus

I am a complete pushover when it comes to my dogs. Layla has this ability to look at me in such a way that I cannot NOT give her a little scrap of whatever it is I’m cooking (if it is safe for dogs, of course).
The other night while I was fixing up this tasty appetizer, Layla was looking at me with her big beady eyes, watching me break off the ends of the asparagus. Naturally, I figure letting her try a piece if asparagus won’t do any harm. Sure enough, she takes the asparagus into the other room, shreds it into pieces and then comes back for more. When she comes back, I am getting out the smoked salmon. Dogs love fish, it’s good for them, so why not give her a little taste? This time, she takes the salmon ever so gently from me…and instead of swallowing it whole, she daintily trots into the other room with it. I go check on her and sure enough, just as I peak around the corner, she sets the salmon down on the carpet then proceeds to position herself to roll in it! “Layla!” I was shocked. She quickly got up, salmon hanging onto her collar. It was so good she wanted to wear it. The salmon should be flattered, I however, am disappointed.
What you’ll need:
Asparagus
Smoked salmon
Olive oil
Freshly ground sea salt
Freshly ground pepper
This recipe is extremely easy to make and makes a wonderful appetizer for a large group of people. Snap the ends off your asparagus and either steam them or saute them in olive oil, garlic and salt and pepper. When the asparagus is cooked through, take thin pieces of smoked salmon and roll around the asparagus stems. Plate and serve.
This recipe is approved for the detox diet, weeks 1-6.
